and long flights, get up and walk around, you don't need a blood clot or a thrombosis or whatever you doctors call it. we will see you next week. thank you so much. all right. jumping back to our top stories. a fox news alert. on top of potential perjury charges -- that's right perjury for our u.s. attorney general, eric holder. multiple committees are preparing to grill the top irs executive this week as that scandal over the government spying on the media is growing. let me welcome to you a brand-new hour, here we are inside america's news headquarters with lots to cover. >> eric: good morning. you know, critics from both sides of the aisle have been calling on the attorney general to step down or be fired. but the white house is holding fast. they see the attacks as part of
8:01 am
a political agenda against the administration. despite that the house judiciary chairman told fox news that the panel is investigating the attorney general of the united states to see if he committed perjury when he testified under oath to congress 2 weeks ago. at that time, mr. holder claimed he had never been involved in any political prosecution -- potential prosecution of the "meet the press." but since then, it has been revealed that he signed off on the secret search of a fox news journalist email. the department of justice says he did not lie. steve centanni is live in washington with the very latest. >> reporter: yeah, republicans clearly turning up the heat on the attorney general eric holder over the targeting of journalists and questions that arose about his truthfulness in congressional testimony during may. he did tell congress on may 15 that he was never involved in any decision that involved the potential criminal investigation of any journalists. but it appears he did sign off on the investigation of fox news

correspondent james rosen. today, the chairman of the house judiciary committee said his panel is investigating holder over that discrepancy and other republicans today, pointing out the importance of this whole matter. >> i think the trouble here isn't even the individual's specific scandals, it is the broader notion that there is a pattern of this activity. i think that's what concerns people because we don't want americans to lose faith and trust in their institutions. that, i think is what is at risk here. >> reporter: some democrats at the same time defended eric holdert and justice department's right to proceed in certain matters in certain ways. listen. >> that did does not mean it's not true as a legal matter to allege and exactly what they ald in this affidavit. there are lots of facts in this case. the fact is rosen and kim set up these alias names, special email

accounts. but that doesn't mean that the justice department ever intended to criminally prosecute rosen. >> reporter: democrats say republicans are using the holder case to distract from the real issues of the economy and jobs. >> eric: a big week on this issue, certainly. >> jamie: president obama has said mr. holder isn't going anywhere. ahead, we are going to take a look at what our attorney general did exactly and examine if he will stay or go. we will have a debate coming up. also, the irs and all of its recent troubles will be the subject of not one, not two, but three hearings this week alone in congress. the embattled tax agency, turning over this new video to congressional lawmake ors friday t. features a dozen of its employees line dancing, line dpansing on a stage. i kid you not. the video produced for a training conference in 2010, the cost -- that one alone, $1600.
8:04 am
but there are two more of these videos that the irs turned over. you may remember these. one is this star trek video, produced for the same 2010 conference and on the right of your screen, that must be marianne, a gilligan's island video. together, all the films cost you, the taxpayers, a whopping $60,000. the treasury inspector general now says to be -- about to release a scathing report on the spending abuse that is going to come any day. and the house oversight and government reform committee is taking up the issue. that will be in a hearing next week. keep it on fox, we will tell you all about it. >> eric: on tuesday, the house ways & means committee will investigate the targeting of conservative groups. there are new allegations that individual americans were targeted because their political views conflicted with the obama
8:05 am
administration. committee chairman dave camp, a republican in michigan says, quote, we now know that the irs began targeting individuals based on their personal beliefs 3 years ago. we need to know who began this targeting and why. there are a slew of lawsuits by groups that were allegedly targeted. one lawyer involved is on the republican lawyers association and is involved in the lawsuits and is in raleigh, north carolina. good morning. >> good morning, eric. >> eric: do you think that the irs, this administration did target people who were rivals and opponents, politically, because of that? >> i absolutely do. i think we are going to get to the bottom of that as we engage in discovery on behalf -- i represent true the vote, which is an organization that filed suit against the irs a week ago, this is an organization that has been waiting for more than 3 years for its tax-exempt status. one of the things i think we are
8:06 am
going to find out, we are going to find out did in fact, the irs -- i know they asked about donors and in some cases, i refused on behalf of some clients to provide that information. but, you see, every tax-exempt organization, even those awaiting exemption have to provide to the irs on a confidential schedule their donors of $5,000 or near. so the irs has a target list that is required to be submitted to the irs but is want supposed to be used for other than just informs to the irs. it is not supposed to be used to target the donors? it is your view that the administration illegally targeted americans because of their political views and they tried to do this to nail their political opponents, leading up to an election year? >> look, i think that's a lot of assumptions. what we know for a fact is that the irs, through its withholding of exempt status for all of
8:07 am
these conservative groups -- i represent a number of them -- with the type of questions that they ask of these groups, pending the applications. the irs was asking for things that they should have never asked. they should have never asked for donors if you had candidate forms and these kind of questions. all of this had the effect of chilling the free speech and association of these conservative groups. we know for a fact that it was happening only to conservative organizations? it didn't have to liberal groups. they say there are 300 conservative groups. what about move on dot org. >> well they have really morphed into a federal pac. so it really doesn't deal with the irs as much as it did when it first began. but when move on dot org was began to fight the impeachment of bill clinton, it applied for
8:08 am
and received its tax-exempt status, immediately. they all expected to get their applications reviewed and approved or denied within a very short period of time. that stopped in the spring of 2010. it has not been corrected. that's the other thing. the irs wants to make it sound as though they found this out and put a stop to it. that's want true. there aregváaé hundreds of still waiting for their tax-exempt status. nothing has changed inside the irs, as near as i can tell. >> eric: what about those who say it was appropriate, even though they apologized? they classified groups, based on the buzzwords. >> where do i begin? what the irs has done, it has abandoned the rule of law. there is a process that has been in place for many years that an organization that seeks exempt status, fills out an
8:09 am
application, there are something like 70 questions. there is a certain set of information you are supposed to provide. when the irs started this effort, it completely departed from the approved rule of law, the approved process and has created something that really has gone from being an objective standard that would apply to everybody, regardless of their political beliefs to now one that is subjective. we don't know what the legal standard is that they are applying and they are applying it only to certain groups and individuals, based on their political philosophy. that doesn't sound like the united states. that sounds like the former soviet union. >> eric: we are out of time. this will be the subject of the hearing on tuesday. thank you for joining us, as america, this nation, waits for answers. >> thank you. >> jamie: speaking of answer, new developments in the boston marathon bombing. a congressional delegation just returning from a trip to russia, all part of the investigation into that deadly attack.

for those who want to sell their homes, why are home prices rising? why is this the time to get the maximum price for your house? >> let's look at the folk who is have been sitting on sidelines and want to sell. the main reasons are they are underwater, meaning they owe the bank more than their home is worth or close to that, or they have paid a lot for their home at the peak and they want the home value to recover. they don't want to sell for less than they paid. number 1, now is probably the best time to get a short sale if you are under water, in part because of the multi-billion-dollar settlements that some of the banks are involved in. they are legally required to give a certain number of short sales. as far as everyone else, we saw huge value increases last year. but so far this year, values are going up at half the rate they were before. that will continue until 2017. so you saw the biggest bump, that's driven by investors. so as a result, we have high prices and low inventory and
